Occasionally you get a car that is a bit special! This VW is one of those special cars. It is just amazing. You will need to come and see the car to get the full picture as it is hard to describe just how nice the car is. This VW Beetle 1200 started of life in 1959 when it was purchased by a British serviceman serving in Germany. It was from new a RHD car. He returned to the UK in 1961 with the car and it was registered8th July 1961. It was then part exchanged for a newer model at the local VW dealership where a young apprentice mechanic took a shine to it and purchased it for a modest sum. That young apprentice still owns the car today some 58 years later. He went on to be a top VW engineer and mechanic traveling regularly to Wolfsburg to do all the VW courses. In 1979 the bug was put away in a dry garage and carefully stored until he retired from work and had the time and expertise to restore the bug to its original beauty. The car was completely dismantled and shot blasted back to bare metal. No new panels where needed and the car retains all original panels, original glass and even original headlamps. The car has had an excellent repaint in the original colour of Mango Green. The interior has also had a full and meticulous restoration including the headling that had to be sourced from the USA. Whilst the body was off the floorpan and running gear was serviced as required, the engine was dismantled and refreshed, all tinware was stove enamelled in the original black. All brakes have been overhauled with a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake pipes, hoses, brake drums, wheel bearings, brake switch and a new stove enalled hand brake lever. Other new items include: king pins, steering box, steering coupling, fuel tank cleaned and painted, fuel filter, fuel tap, all hoses, clutch, gear stick, accellerator pedal, chrome bumpers and irons, road wheels painted original 2 colours, new running boards and covers and new front tyres.New seals to bonnet, engine, doors, windows, new horn, new carpets, new interior trim etc. etc. etc. I could go on forever. This beetle has its original handbook and service book that shows a full VW service history and it has recently been serviced ready to go.
